Apart from temple complexes - extremely famous for their outstanding architectural beauty and rightly engraved sculptures, at present, Khajuraho is just a small village in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India. But, in ancient time, a thousand years back, Khajuraho was a big city and the capital of the Chandelas, Rajput Kings of middle ages who governed over Central India from the 10th to 12th century. Initially, there were over 80 temples in Khajuraho, but at present only 22 temples are standing in a realistic condition of preservation. These temples are dispersed over an area of around twenty-one square kilometer (21 km2 ).

Eastern Group of

Some major temples of western group are Kandaria Mahadeo Temple, Chaunsat Yogini Temple, Chitragupta Temple, Vishwanath Temple, Matangeshwara Temple, and Lakshamana Temple.
Southern Group of
Temples
: This group lies around 5 km from Khajuraho village. Duladeo Temple - dedicated to Lord Shiva and Chaturbhuj Temple - dedicated to Lord Vishnu are the major temples of this group.

By Air: Khajuraho is well-connected by airlines from Delhi, Varanasi, Agra and Kathmandu.
By Rail: Neared railheads are Mahoba (64 km), Harpalpur (94 km), Satna (117 km), and Jhansi (175 km). Jhansi and Satna are well-connected with cities like Delhi, Mumabi, Kolkata, Chennai, Varanasi, Agra, etc.
